Newyear’s speech 2008 8-1-2008 On January 8th 2008 Chairman of Holding Businesspark Luchthaven Maastricht Jan Tindemans held the annual new years speech during the new years reception. In this speech the year 2007 was reviewed. More importantly the new corporate structure, style and plans for the future were presented. Figures 2007 The passenger figures for 2007 where, as was expected, lower than the year 2006. 160.000 passengers travelled via Maastricht Aachen Airport. The number of tonnes of cargo handled however increase by 5% to 81.000 tonnes. The expectations for 2008 are positive: 340.000 passengers and 88.000 tonnes of cargo are expected. In his speech Jan Tindemans stressed that the Ecotax which will be implemented by the Dutch government in 2008 can slow the expected growth for the airport. He went on to stress the tax has no benefits to the environment and announced Maastricht Aachen Airport will go to court to have the tax repealed. Future Plans The Businesspark MAA has acquired 35 hectares of land from the "dienst Domeinen" in December 2007. Ground works on this land has been started. An important part of the new Businesspark is a new cargo terminal with 20.000 square metres floor space which will be operational in December 2008. Cost for the construction of the new terminal and platform exceed 45 million Euros. In close cooperation with the city council of the Municipality of Beek a ring-road will be constructed around the airport in the year 2008. The road requires a further investment of 10 million euros. As per the first of March 2008 Sander Heijmans will assume the position of Chief Executive Officer of Maastricht Aachen Airport and Maastricht Handling Services. Sander Heijmans joined the team at Maastricht Aachen Airport as commercial director on July 1st 2007 and was previously employed as Senior Vice President Passengers with Martinair. Presentation new logo and company structure Now the development of the new Businesspark is set in motion, the real estate portfolio has grown considerably and the Maintenance Boulevard concept is in the final stages, the airport is ready for the future. Hence a new corporate identity for the new MAA was created in cooperation with van Zandbeek Communication and Events from Maastricht. To emphasize the connection between the individual companies a single logo will be used in the future. The umbrella brand name for the combined companies will be Aviation Valley Maastricht Airport. Both Maastricht Aachen Airport and Maastricht Handling Services will continue to exist under their original names and high levels of service. The 100 hectare Businesspark has been given the name Aviation Valley Business Park. By joining all companies under the Aviation Valley brand the activities of the Maintenance Boulevard and Aviation Valley Real Estate have a clear link to the other activities at the airport. We kindly invite you to visit www.aviationvalley.nlto familiarize yourself with Aviation Valley.
